Do You Support Your Local Farmer’s Market?

Every Friday, there is a local Farmer’s Market here. We went and loaded up!

This stall had lineups after people started arriving. I think it was because they were advertising chemical free produce. I know I bought a LOT of veggies from this fellow.

I bought some strawberries from this vendor – I was surprised. They were nowhere near as good as our own, although they were a lot larger. Actually, they were huge.

The citrus was quite incredible and we bought a large bag of oranges. Then yesterday when we were out for a bike ride, we found another vendor just down the road. Today we went and picked up some Tangellos. They are incredible – so juicy! We got some lemons too.

Another vendor at the Farmers Market was selling potted herbs. I didn’t buy any since we can’t bring them home over the border. In hindsight, I should have bought a couple and I may do just that this Friday. We can use them while we’re here and then give them to someone when we head back home.

Do you support your local Farmers Market? I hope so – you can buy fresh organic or naturally grown food for your family and it is so much better for you than store bought, imported, chemically sprayed vegetables.

We supported our local White Rock farmers market, when we lived there. It was lovely to see all the beautiful produce.

There was one sad part for me. There were venders who had obviously just picked up a case of produce from a commercial vender and sold it off piecemeal. All the while charging huge prices. It doesn’t make sense to pay more for something the grocery store sells down the road for the same price.

That said, there were some amazing home grown veggies available, and they were easy to tell, because those were the ones that were sold out fast.

Hi Jen, that is sad that some people take advantage of others like that. I’ll bet the White Rock market is a huge one. I love going to Farmers Markets when we travel. While we are here, we are going to try to get to the big market in Palm Springs – that one is huge!

  2. Toronto is awesome for farmers’ markets so we check them out quite often.

I’ll bet, Teena! You folks probably have some of the best markets in the country there.

    Hi Annie,
It sure looks warm and inviting down there. The strawberries in the picture I thought were peppers at first. My screen is small, my eyes must be getting old, but the strawberries are BIG! The citrus fruit looks so unbelievably delicious! I hope you can make some lemonade and eat plenty of fresh, locally raised tangellos…mmmm!
Grants Pass has a great Grower’s Market that will be reopening in a week or two.

Kari, we are really enjoying the fresh produce here. The strawberries though big, were not juicy at all. I passed them by yesterday and filled up on fresh spinach, mixed salad greens, farm eggs and shell peas. Wonderful!!
