Many of you are already aware that much of BC is on fire right now. It has been a stressful 3 days and the end is not yet in sight. What we really need are some cooler temperatures and no thunderstorms.
Lightning strikes are happening almost daily and start new fires easily. The forest is very dry and once things get going, the fires spread very quickly.
The fires are to the west of us – the closest one is about 15 miles as the crow flies.
At this time, we are on our guard. Right now, the fires are on the west side of the highway that runs north and south throughout BC.
IF the winds shift and the fire jumps the highway, we will start getting VERY concerned here. We have talked with all the neighbours and the general consensus is that the women and children will leave, and most of the men will stay.
Our neighbourhood is outside of fire protection. This means that if a house started on fire, fire crews will not put it out. Forestry will come and they will fight the forest fire, but will not work at all to save any of the homes. This is a risk we were well aware of when we bought this property.
Many areas and towns have been evacuated, including Cache Creek, Ashcroft, parts of Lac la Hache, the 103 and the 108 subdivisions and other areas.
We are thankful for all the firefighters. What a dangerous and stressful job they have! We are hoping that things settle down, but there is no break forecast for the weather.
Please keep BC in your thoughts and prayers. It may be a few days before I post again here, but I will be on Facebook at certain times of the day.
I have started a YouTube channel for our videos. The one included here gives an idea of the amount of smoke here right now. Subscribe to our YouTube channel by clicking on this video and then hit the Subscribe button.
We are still working hard here daily. Picking Garlic Scapes and cutting and baling hay are what we are up to right now. We’re tired and a bit stressed, but thankful that we still have our home.
